![]() has sent in some pics he found of ROTJ droid wrangler Roger Nichols posing with some R2 units. A very cool and interesting droid that you are seeing here first! It also appears that while the main "eye" lens of the R2 unit is standard black, the raised square panel in which it is set (which is blue on R2-D2 and yellow on Dorovia Bold's, below) is the same white color as the rest of the dome. Presumably there is one on either side of the central "eye" panel. Of particular note are the nifty pinstriped rectangular decoration right above them. You can see that it has a dirty white appearance, with black panels along the base of the dome. I really had to go over this scene carefully to make it out, as it is only shown for a few frames. It is a different color than the one he used at the Battle of Yavin (pictured at the bottom of the page), but it is again an R2 unit. The last droid we can make out from the battle of Endor is that of Wedge Antilles. It has a white dome with tan markings on the sides of its dome. They were then probably reprogrammed and used by the Empire, thus sparing them the fate of the rest of the crew of the Tantive IV.ĭuring the attack on the Death Star in Return of the Jedi, we get a quick glimpse of a rebel X-Wing pilot, Grizz Frix, and his R5 unit right before they get blown up. Not being clever enough to use the same method to escape that R2-D2 did, they were both captured by the Empire and presumably had their memory banks searched. Branon (also pictured below), is on the right. R2-Q2, who shares a dome with the R2 unit used by Biggs Darklighter (pictured below), is on the left, and R4-M9, who shares a dome with the astrodroid used by John D. There are stormtroopers in front of the droids, and behind the rebels, so it seems pretty clear that they are being escorted into captivity the same the human crew is. Notice that they are leaving the ship right in front of the rebel crew. Often identified as Imperial droids brought on board to search for the Death Star plans, it seems more likely that these two astromechs served alongside R2-D2 aboard Princess Leia's ship, the Tantive IV. How cool would it be to eventually have an astromech droid from all twelve Red Squadron pilots from the Battle of Yavin? Hopefully the lack of actual screenshots will not stop Hasbro and Lucasfilm from producing droids for these pilots. One must remember that every X- and Y-Wing pilot used an astromech during the great space battles of Star Wars, even if they were never shown on screen. Wedge has always been portrayed as a do-good figure in the Rebellion, so it is very shocking that, at least based on what we saw in this trailer, he appears to have been with the Empire at one point. Here are the images of all of the rebel astromechs seen in the movies outside of Echobase. ![]() He also went on to found the famed Rogue Squadron with Luke, and has been the subject of many expanded universe novels, as well as video games. He is famous for being the only Rebellion pilot to survive the assault on both Death Stars. Wedge Antilles is not exactly a main character in the Star Wars movies, but he is a very important one. You can call me Wedge." That is a massive deal. We then cut to the cockpit of that fighter and the pilot, who is indeed dressed in a stormtrooper uniform and says "This is Tie SS25. The trailer then cuts to a shot of Tie Fighters doing battle, and one particular pilot seemed to have some very exceptional abilities. ![]() The quote above can be heard around the 30 second mark of the trailer by a very ominous and somewhat distorted voice. "There are Imperial cadets in the Sky Strike Academy who wish to defect to the Rebels." ![]()
